One More Sleep!

The new Creative Memories Spring and Summer collection goes live tomorrow - Thursday March 1st! Hooray!

Not only does it mean that spring is just around the corner, but it signals the introduction of so many fabulous new products! The ladies at our retreat this past weekend were treated to a sneak-peek and they loved everything they saw! The biggest favorite? Definitely the ENCHANTED POWER PALETTE which features gorgeous colors, embossed papers, die-cut self-adhesive paper ribbons and sparkly photo-safe epoxy gems! Since my pre-ordered palette was the first thing to sell, I can't wait to order another one as of tomorrow so I can play with it!

Another favorite was the DIVINE WEDDING collection, with it's exquisite papers & albums in both 12x12 and 8x8 sizes AND the new coordinating Circut Cartridge! Be still my heart!

Even better news? ALL Power Palettes, including the new Enchanted and Divine sets are on sale for 30% off in March! You can see them all and get all the details by viewing the new Mini-Catalog here!

If you are in the Calgary area and would like to see the items in person, I am having a FREE open workshop and new product launch this Friday night from 7-10pm. Please contact me if you'd like to come and crop, or simply drop in for a look. And as always, if you would like to order any of the great CM products, let me know or shop anytime on my Creative Memories Consultant Website.

Happy Spring!

52: Floral Collage

Hey there! I am scrapping the weekend away with 40 great ladies at our lovely hotel in Canmore Alberta! Between travel, set-up, teaching classes and demonstrating fabulous CM products like the Border Maker, I haven't got much done myself, but we are having a great time!

One of the projects I shared with ladies is this gorgeous floral collage display:

This project was created using Reflections Paper Flowers and adhering them to the background piece of cardstock in the shape of a heart. One 4 x 6 photo was attached off to the side, and the title "Love Grows Here" was added with letter stickers. The whole thing is displayed on the Sleek White Magnetic Everyday Disply board with the magnets it comes with. The genius part? When I tire of this particular display, the page can be slipped into my album and a new display can be easily added! I love the versatility of it!

Of course you can use paper flowers in colors to match your decor or photos and change up the title to suit your photo. It's a fresh way to display a favorite photo!

This project was designed by Creative Memories, and you can get a step-by-step instruction guide here.

Have a great weekend...I am happy to still have tonight and a good part of tomorrow to play with my scrappy friends!

52: White + One

Got 15 minutes? A few photos? White cardstock plus one other color? Then you can create a quick and easy layout. YES! IN 15 MINUTES!

This weeks Creative Prompt is to Use White + One Other Color.

White + One is a great formula for creating a super fast and easy scrapbook page. Pick a color that works with your photos, and if you do add any extra embellishments (stickers, punched shapes etc.) make sure that they are in that single color as well. Super fast scrapbooking is about making quick decisions and eliminating those seemingly agonizing choices about which color papers and embellishments to use! You simply can't go wrong with this approach.

I had some photos I snapped of my son having fun in a ball pit. Although I loved the bright colors, I knew that using a lot of patterned paper would be overwhelming with these photos, so this formula worked especially well.  I used yellow as my plus-one color to complement the color of the balls:

I used the Creative Memories Grip and Clip and Jumbo Wavy Square pattern to trim and shape the edges of the four photos AND the background piece of solid yellow cardstock. Here is a short video showing how the Grip and Clip works:

I adhered the photos and their yellow background to my white cardstock base, then made a quick title with some very old CM letter stickers in yellow (yup...let's use up that stash!) I journaled on the side with the Black Dual Tip Pen and then added a few black stitching lines and borders around the letters.

DONE.
In 15 Minutes.
Yup.

It's not the most decorative page ever, but, hey, if I want to capture and record lots of everyday moments for my family, then I have to use my time wisely and GET PAGES DONE. Besides...the beauty lies in the photos and the stories, right?

Hope you give it a try...you'll love how quick it is!

Happy Scrapping!

NEW Cricut Divine Wedding Cartridge!

I received my Creative Memories new product shipment a couple of days ago, and am having so much fun playing with all the gorgeous new items! They will officially be released on March 1st, 2012, but I will be sharing a sneak-peek with the particpants at my upcoming retreat next weekend and with all my Calgary-area customers at my open house workshop the weekend after!

Buuut...since one of the products - the Cricut Divine Wedding cartridge - has already been released by ProvoCraft, I figure I can share it with you all here!

This cartridge is filled with beautiful wedding images, word art, shapes and fonts. There are 6 Creative Features including Layer/Shadow, Phrase, Phrase Shadow, Just Married Font, Wedded Bliss Font, and Monogram. Use the cartridge in conjunction with the new Creative Memories Divine Power Palette to make one of a kind wedding invitations, place settings, thank you cards, and other decor projects, not to mention scrapbook pages to remember your love story once the big day has passed.

Even though Provocraft released the information about and images of the cartridge, you won't be able to buy it anywhere else except from a CM consultant! Once the cartridge is officially released, you will be able to purchase it through me or directly from my personal website. You'll also be able to view all the images found on my website using the unique flip-book feature!

Once the cartridge is released and available for purchase on my website I'll update the links in this post so you can find all the info easily! But for now, here's a little look:

You can also go visit the Cricut Blog to see more cartridge images as well as projects created with the cartridge. And look at the projects carefully...you'll also get a peek at the new Creative Memories Divine Power Palette that coordinates with the cartridge images!

Happy Cricuting!

52: Scrap with Scraps

At my February Kit of the Month Club workshop last night I shared this cute n' easy project with my club ladies. We used the scraps from the papers from the Nancy O'Dell "Love" pack to make a cute "quilted" heart, but you can re-purpose the idea using any scraps you have on hand and making any shape you like.

1) Cut a variety of scraps into strips and place them lengthwise on a piece of scrap cardstock. Make sure the edges are touching each other. Tip: Use liquid Precision Point adhesive or a glue stick so that the entire strip can be adhered to the backing. Let dry.

Next, trace a heart shape (or another shape you might prefer) over top of the strips with a pencil and cut it out with scissors.

Finally, add stitching details (like dashes, x’s and zig-zags) with a black pen over the seams where the strips of paper join to create a quilted look.

Use the finished heart embellishment on a card, or use it with other coordinating scraps on a layout.

Have fun scrapping with your scraps!

Cheerful Valentine Cards

I have been struggling with my health for a few months now, and I felt especially ill a week and a half ago. Unfortunately, I had to cancel my scheduled Valentines Card class because of it - my apologies to the ladies who registered. But, at least I can share a few of the cards I designed for the class with you here.

All the patterned papers and stickers are from the uber-cute Cheerful Valentines Additions pack:

I also used solid cardstock in Red, White, Black, Taffy, Pink Lemonade and Cloud along with some basic tools (Rotary Trimmer, Custome Cutting System - oval templates, Tape Runner and Foam Squares Adhesive and various Shape Maker Punches), all from Creative Memories of course!

Sweet Love-Birds

The pop-up hearts were created by punching 4 hearts,
folding them in half and gluing them back to back.
Next time I'll use a ruler to line up the word stickers!

I love this tree sticker and the cloud is a scalloped circle punch, cut in half.

The heart borders were cut from the new This & That Cricut Cartridge.
The inner hearts pop out, so I interspersed them to create some differences in color.

I placed the sentiment sticker on the inside of the card and used the
Custom Cutting System to cut and oval in the front side of the card in order to read it!
I LOVE the multicolored LOVE paper!

Because the card class was cancelled, I have quite a few Cheerful Valentine packs on hand! If you would like one, contact me and I'll get it to you in time to make some of your own cute Valentine's cards!

Have a LOVE-ly day!

Creative Memories February Kit of the Month

Hey! I am a little behind in sharing the Kit of the Month for February with you! So sorry!

Since my KOTM Club features seasonally themed layouts and cards, I knew February's Kit would be about Valentines Day, Sweethearts or Love. So when Nancy O'Dell's new LOVE Series was introduced in January, I knew that the 12 x 12 LOVE Addition would be the one we'd be working with! It's full of unexpected color combinations and vintage feeling stickers, and has the the look of a handwritten love letter. It's a little different than the typical red and pink Valentine's Day theme and will work for a lot of different photos or takes on the idea of love.
Nancy O'Dell's 12 x 12 LOVE addition

Nancy O'Dell describes her collection as being "...about love – love for a sweetheart, love for a child, love for a parent, a pet or a place – pure, innocent, honest love. The Love Series blends gently worn icons and images with lively young colors to match the energy and emotion of your photos. Love grows old, but it never fades!" How true!

When I got the addition pack and started playing with the papers, I used photos of my husband and sons, but soon realized that the papers and stickers would work very well with photos about places, pets and things we love as well. The papers and photo mats are rich and varied, and right on trend with the vintage theme. The stickers have a lot of detail and will enhance many different types of pages.

Here is a peek at the layouts and cards I created just for my Kit of the Month Club Members:

We had a great time last month at our Kit of the Month Workshop and my club ladies are coming again this Friday, February 10th at 7:30 pm. If you would like to join our club, I have a few extra kits prepared and we'd love to have you - just let me know asap and I'll "set a place" for you!

Kits are only $15.00 per month and include everything you need to create two 12 x 12 layouts and two greeting cards with envelopes. There is no additional charge for the workshop...just bring your adhesive and possibly some photos of people/things you love!

And remember, even if you are not in the Calgary area, I can prep and send your kit to you! It will come with step-by-step instructions for your projects so you can complete them in your own home! (Just remember to contact me to order as I must add the additional papers, die cuts and instructions to make your kit complete!)

Have fun scrapping this month all the people and things YOU love!

52: Clip a Corner

What's a girl to do when she wants to create a layered look, but doesn't want to use up a whole sheet of gorgeous paper? Create a border all around the page of course!

I received an order of CM products the other day and was so excited to unpack and play with the Reflections Power Palette. I have been anxiously waiting for this palette to arrive as I LOVE the colors! (Check out this post for more on WHY I love it so much!)

One paper in the decorative paper pack was an all-over leaf print with touches of silver foil. I could envision using it on so many layouts, so I decided to use it sparingly to get maximum exposure! Instead of using a whole sheet as a backgound on which I was planning on adding a solid color as the foundation for my photos, I decide to use my mitred border technique, which I originally shared on my blog here.

It's a very simple technique and I'll use a couple of pictures from that previous blog post to illustrate it again. Simply cut four 1" strips, ovelap two strips at a time at the corner and "clip" through the two strips from the inside to the outside corner:

When you repeat it on all four corners and then place and adhere the strips along the edges of your background paper, you'll acheive a mitred corner effect like this:

The mitred effect is best with stripes, but also can work with a small scale all-over patterned paper - it's simple, but lovely.

So I trimmed my Reflections leaf patterned paper, clipped my corners and added them onto a solid pale turquoise background. I quickly arranged three black and white photos of my younger son, one cardstock sticker, two die-cut flowers and one die-cut leaf from the coordinating embellishments. I finished off with handwritten journaling and another simple but lovely layout was done!

So, the next time you want to use a little paper for maximum effect, try clipping your corners!

Have a great weekend!
