Summer Scrap-a-thon: Week 11!

Before we get to this week's challenge, I promised I would post my own take on last week's challenge to scrap photos that are 5 years old or older. I dug out some pics of me at five, photographed with my new bike and a favorite dolly, playing happily in my parents yard.

I was happy to put together this layout in a matter of 15 or 20 minutes thanks to a CTMH Level 1 kit that had coordinating papers and embellishments. I purchased a number of these kits from my friend and colleague Carla (who is a CTMH consultant extraordinaire!) when they were offering Level 1 kits at an amazing $4.00 each! I grabbed as many as I could and I am excited that I will be able to put together lots of layouts really quickly! Although the sale is over, check out Carla's website to see the current Level 1 kits and all the other great CTMH products. You can also keep up to date with new promos and sales as they come up.

Anyway, it was fun to use photos of my young self and I love the happy memories I felt while I was creating it. Ahhh...the power of scrapbooking!

OK, on to this week's challenge! This week marks the beginning of the school year for students in my local school district and in this spirit of going back to school, your challenge is to scrap something to do with learning – a lesson you learned, your child’s first day of school - or your own first day.

DT member Michelle created this layout about how much she loves reading and why.

I love the graphic nature of Michelle's layout as well as the sentiment expressed. Is there something you have recently learned or learned ABOUT yourself? Why not document it this week?

And don't forget to post it! Yes, I know I'm a broken record, but we LOVE to see your layouts posted in our flickr gallery. And since we still have two prizes left we need to give one away this week! You have until the end of this week (Saturday September 4th at midnight MST) to post a layout in the flickr gallery and we'll pick one at random to receive the prize.

Have fun!

Summer Scrap-a-thon - Week 10!

My sincere apologies for not posting a lot lately. My computer is STILL down and we are awaiting a new motherboard from Dell to arrive. But my awesome hubbie temporarily switched out my hard drive and put it into his computer so I could do a little work tonight! Hopefully by the weeks end it will be resolved and I can get back to blogging more regularly again.

Anyway...can you believe we are TEN weeks into summer and we really have only about 4 weeks left? How come summer seems to fly by while winter drags on and one? I say no fair! This week our challenge is to get out those photo binders or boxes and scrap some pictures from at least FIVE YEARS AGO!

Now I love scrapping my latest photos while the memories are still fresh, but what about all those photos from years and events past? Pull some out and get a layout done! And, since I haven't scrapped older photos for quite a while, I am off to take my own challenge and work on a layout to share with you later this week.

Don't forget to post YOUR challenge layout in our flickr gallery...I am so pleased to see some new layouts posted recently! Thanks for sharing!

Speaking of sharing...I do have some exciting news to share. All the 2010/2011 crop and special event days for Calgary Crops have been finalized and are now posted! Go to the Calgary Crops site for more info and if you are in the Calgary area, make sure to mark your calendars and plan on attending. We have LOTS of great things planned for our scrappers and paper-crafters this year!

OK...I solemnly promise to be back in a couple of days to sharea layout using photos from at least 5 years ago. Well...that is IF hubbie takes care of me and my laptop!!!!

Summer Scrap-a-thon - Week 9

Hi everyone...I have some access to the internet and email again, but hubbie is still trying to fix my computer as he has time. I feel like the cobbler who has barefoot children...here my hubbie is an IT specialist, but he is so busy it's hard to find the time to fix his own wife's computer! Sigh...

Anyway...this weeks challenge is to create a layout using at least one photo of yourself! I don't know about you, but there are very few photos of me (or layouts about me!) in our family albums. We scrapbookers have to make a concerted we get in some of the shots and onto some of the layouts, otherwise who will tell our personal story? It's up to us to make sure we include ourselves!

DT member Joan created a simple but striking page featuring one photo of herself along with journaling strips that tell some fun facts about herself.

So sweet...and I am right there with you on the coffee thing Joan - yup, anyday, anytime!!!

Go ahead - don't be shy. Create a layout with at least one photo of you and post it in our flickr gallery to win!

Summer Scrap-a-thon Week 8 Challenge

My computer crashed so I am really lost right now! I am posting this from hubbies iPad and it is very weird! Hopefully he can get my laptop up and running soon.

Anyway...the challenge this week is to use your favorite color in your layout. DT member Natalie created and sent in an amazingly gorgeous layout using her favorite color - RED! But, I don't have access to it because of my computer issues! I hope she reads this and will go ahead and post it to the flickr gallery. Then I can give you a link to it so you can ooh and ahh at it's deliciousness!

I'll keep you up to date on my computer challenges and we'll go from there!

Holidays

I can't believe I forgot to post yesterday! Sorry! We are actually taking a little break from challenges this week due to the Heritage Day Holiday here in Alberta, but I should have let you know!

Anyway, hope you take this week to "catch up" on any of our previous challenges. And don't forget to post them in our Flickr Gallery for upcoming prizes!

I will be back later this week to share some other projects I have been working on.
